About project

Project Summary

KAYD is now implementing a project of Promoting Rural Women Land Rights – Kasulu, collaborating with government in Kasulu district council.

Under a support from FOSI/ OSIEA, a SWISS Charitable Foundation , the project is being successfully implemented within five wards namely Titye, Nyamidaho, Kitagata, Heru-Ushingo and Kagerankanda

Traditionally, in Kigoma region where Kasulu is among districts, women are mainly involved in activities such as fetching water, collecting firewood, production of food crops, preparing food and taking care of children, while men are mainly involved in commercial activities such as cultivating cash crops, livestock herding and charcoal production. Yet, women are only allowed to use land – usufructuary right – while men own, control and inherit land

The project is meant to increase women access to land resources and utilization. Through provision of education to women in their respective groups and hence raising their awareness on ownership rights, procedures, guidelines, policy, by-laws and the Laws.

These are easily organized and conducted through forums to women and other land stakeholders on issues of women land ownership, suggestions and action plans.

Inequality and biased on property rights to women still high. We therefore keep insisting and inviting stakeholders who are interesting in empowering women, to give their contribution in this crucial matter which eventually women will be enabled to own land with title deed which gives assurance of ownership.
